One of my first international tours took me to Zimbabwe for a jazz festival.

On my first morning there, I woke early and walked through the city. The streets were already alive, and everything moved in rhythm.

Then I heard singing.

A local youth soccer team was running through the streets, their voices and steps locked in a call and response.

The groove was so strong I nearly ran beside them just to stay inside the sound.

That night, standing on stage with my saxophone in front of thousands of people, I saw those young runners again in my mind. The way the whole group moved together in a single groove.
